Grosse Fugue  is full of music. On this page, I intend to build a resource that enables people to order recordings of the featured pieces with ease.

Of course, there is a great degree of personal taste in recommending recordings. The ones I select are those I know and listen to frequently. I hope that people will suggest other options and we can have a discussion about why we each like what we like!

A central idea of the novel is that the Beethoven Late Quartets may be viewed as a single work that is, like a play, divided into five acts and twenty-six scenes. It is logical to suggest a single integral set, played by the same ensemble, rather than pick separate performances by different quartets. For me, the pre-eminent set of recent, or indeed any, times is by the Takacs Quartet.

There are many recordings of the Bach Partita #2 forSolo Violin. The version I have is by the great Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux. It's a wonderful performance, full of integrity and total dedication to the music. This complete set of Bach's complete output for solo violin is superb, even if it's approaching fifty years old.
